Captain Ichiro?

From this week's mailbag at the Mariners official site:

Q: Will the Mariners name a team captain in 2006? How about Ichiro?

A: Manager Mike Hargrove's preference is not to have a team captain, so it is unlikely that there would be a team captain in 2006.

Ichiro for captain? Are you kidding me? Trav here's a great opportunity for you to chime in with your Raul for captain campaign.

  1. I got a kick out of that suggestion.

I've never really gotten on the whole "we need a captain!!" bandwagon, but would be in favor of Beltre taking up those duties if it was absolutely necessary.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Franklin on the mound tonight..... actually, no I'm not, I think I'm going to the movies.

  2. However, it is interesting to note that this will undoubtedly be Frankie's final appearance with the Mariners tonight. He's always been incredible whenever I've seen him in person. I must have seen every shutout he's ever thrown or something.

Sorry I can't be there tonight buddy. Fair thee well.

  3. Goodbye Franklin. Don't let the rossen (sp?) bag hit you on the way out.

  4. Indeed. I think it's safe to say that we won't be missing his homer-happing goatee any time soon.

  6. Oy. Watching the Yanks-Sox game tonight it was sickening how many ex-Mariners are on those teams.

ARod, Ortiz, Randy, Tino, Varitek, Olerud....and of course third base coach LUIS SOJO!!!

  7. I know, ridiculous. I think Ortiz hurts the most now - even though he never actually got to the bigs for us. Insert Ortiz at DH, move Raul to left, run-production problems solved.

If it were only that simple.

"Hey, Theo. Ya know, I think there was a mix-up. When we signed Big Papi back in '93, we really weren't aware he was so good. We'd like it if we could just have him back now. Yeah, that would be great, thanks."

....was at last night's game ...seeing Dan Wilson hang up his spikes and end any connection to 1995 brought a lump tp my throat, and maybe even a tear to my eye--Dan teh Man was SOOOOOOO underrated--where would Randy Johnson be today wihtout Dan...1995 would neve rhave happened wiht Valle (or Marzano) behind the plate...guess we have to stop living in the past--not give up the past ..that is waht makes baseball ther greatest game --its past as well as its present..thanks ,Dan for 13 terrific years
