Hmmmm....

Carl Everett's agent says the rumors are exaggerated. You'll notice in that same article that Boras is trying to get Millwood 5 years. Back away from the super-agent Mr. Bavasi.

By the way, for those who support the idea of waiting until next year's crop of free agent pitchers, Peter Gammons says the top guys in that crop are Barry Zito, Mark Mulder, and Kelvim Escobar. Personally, I like Escobar the best of that crew (for no real reason), but I like all three better than who's available this winter.

M's bring back Jamie for one more year.

Oh-and Tejada wants out of Baltimore. Bavasi said Betancourt's untouchable, but....come on. Tejada! He wanted to be a Mariner-let's grant his wish this time.

Most importantly, Paul Posluszny beat out the toolish Buckeye AJ Hawk for the Bednarik award. And Paterno won coach of the year.

  1. mmmm Tejada. I agree mike betencourt is very cool but this is tejada. There is your guy Bavasi go get him. He embodies everything this team lacks and needs. GO GET HIM!!!

  2. Absolutely!

Then of course, whither Betancourt? Is there another position he could play? Second base, maybe? The kid has a great glove, I'd hate to see us not have him around.

If we did acquire Tejada, what would it take to get him? I would imagine the Orioles need pitching, and they would probably ask for Hernandez. But how about offering Soriano, Meche and Reed (or one of our SS prospects) for Tejada? Some of the trades made so far have been pretty interesting... like Boston trading Renteria to Atlanta for a prospect? Other players have been moved for prospects too. Maybe it wouldn't take a king's ransom to get Tejada to Seattle. I like the idea of keeping Betancourt, but then again we have several shortstops in the minors... Tuiasasopo, Asdrubal Cabrera, Adam Jones... and Betancourt, Jose Lopez (now at 2B, but basically a SS) and Michael Morse (now an OF but basically as SS) at the MLB level. Heck, that's six shortstops...

If we think we can get Tejada, maybe it's time to choose which of those youngsters to keep, and maybe include one of them in a Tejada deal? I'd go for Lopez or Cabrera in that case... hasn't there been talk in the M's organization about moving Adam Jones to the OF, and about Tui projecting more as a third baseman than as a shortstop? Maybe we could keep Tui and Jones around, move Yuniesky to 2B, and use Lopez, Cabrera and Morse as tradebait?

While our organization may be lacking prospects for inclusion in trades, I don't think it's lacking in the SS department...

Anyway, it's fun to think about.

  3. I love this carl evertt story. I remember when this story came out and it was revisited on ussmariner here is the link to the article: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/cover/news/2000/07/19/everett_flashback/

and the part i like the most:
"Interleague play? "Don't like it," Everett responds. "They only have it because of two teams [the New York Mets and the New York Yankees]. It's all about the money." Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter? "Not a star." The Mets, one of his former teams? "All those [management] people are hypocrites and idiots." The Atlanta Braves' starting pitchers? "You can run on them all day." Big cities? "Hate 'em. I need space." American League baseball? "Boring." Dinosaurs? "Didn't exist."

    Uh, come again?

"God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve," Everett said last Friday, before the Red Sox lost two of three in Atlanta. "The Bible never says anything about dinosaurs. You can't say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Someone actually saw Adam and Eve. No one ever saw a Tyrannosaurus rex."

    What about dinosaur bones?

    "Made by man," he says.

Everett has trouble, too, with the idea of man actually walking on the moon. After first rejecting the notion, he concedes, "Yeah, that could have happened. It's possible. That is something you could prove. You can't prove dinosaurs ever existed. I feel it's far-fetched."

...I 'm telling you we do not want Carl Everett!@#$...Tejada may like ot come back and haunt the Oakland A's in this division...verrry interesting

  7. As long as he doesn't come back to haunt the A's in an Angel or Ranger uniform, or put on an A's uniform again, it's o.k. with me. If we can't get him, I at least don't want him in our division!
