Wow.........Team option picked up for Ready Eddie

I didn’t think this would happen but the mariners exercised their club option on Eddie Guardado. It’s a one-year deal for 6 million plus. I don’t know if this is a good thing. I love that Eddie is back but for 6 million? I just don’t know if that is a smart move

let's hope the team knows something we don't about his arm...that it is in better shape than we think. i certainly am happy to have someone with his spirit in the clubhouse. he seems to demonstrate how to play beyond one's ability or despite injuries.i'm big on team chemistry, but realize talented and healthy players are what will help us win.let's get some of those too, bill.

  2. I agree I love Eddie's presence in the clubhouse. But like you Maaah I hope the Mariners know something we don't because that’s 2-3 million more we just spent on Eddie that could have gone to wooing some free agent..........

  4. I agree about the shoulder concerns, but he did pitch with it all this year. It may be a ticking time bomb, but it hasn't exploded yet.

I think there is something to be said for showing loyalty to one of the few bright spots on the 2004-2005 M's. Who knows, maybe he can serve as a mentor for Sherril, Putz, and Ninja. Plus, the bullpen is a strength going into next year, meaning Eddie won't have to be "the man".

As far as the money, I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal. If the M's are truly commited to bringing in Burnett or whoever it may be, I think they'll put up the money. We shall see.

  5. Agree PWhizzle. There were some rumors about the M's going after Hoffman, which I really didn't like. The nice thing about this deal is that Eddie can be a stopgap option while the Ninja is groomed to close.

..so what' s next ?..is this another episode of 'Stand Pat" (even though he' s now in Philly? )...or is this a show of commitment...maybe expecting the core from last year to perform better isn't unrealistic...except the pitching staff--it needs a boost for sure..ah,the fun of the hot stove league

  7. The groz mad a great point today on the air. If Eddie's shoulder is healthy whihc last year it was then this is a steal. With guys out there like hoffmen and such askin close to 10 mill, think of what your getting with eddie for 6 mill. 30 plus saves and a leader in the club house. THe more I look at this signing the more I like it.

  8. I think neddy brings up a good point that we are overlooking-what should we expect from the current team? You have to think Beltre, Reed, and Ichiro will have bigger years in 2005. Plus we've got Felix, Betancourt and Lopez for the whole year. The bullpen looks very strong. I don't think the big "splash" is all that necessary this year. Let's see what they can do.

The offensive numbers were pretty putrid this year, but they did include Boone, Spiezio, Olivo, Wilson Valdez, etc.

Focus everything on adding a good starter to the rotation and I like the 2006 M's.
