What's this all about?

Rob Neyer wrote a little something about his experience in Arizona today. This is an Insider article from ESPN, so you may not be able to access it. Most of the article isn't all that interesting, but there was one line that raised my eyebrows:

"I'm contractually prohibited from revealing anything I learned that might be particularly interesting -- for example, the reason the Dodgers weren't all that interested in re-signing Adrian Beltre a year ago.."

Wonder what that reason is. That doesn't make me feel too good about Beltre going into next season.

  1. i thought that was interesting too. wasn't what he was writing about a fantasy baseball conference? who would be there with info like that?

also - did you guys know that your subtitle is "ignorant blabbling . . ." shouldn't it be babbling?

  2. I think actually it should be blabbing. I mean, we're not a brook.

Arizona for a fantasy baseball conference. Could he possibly have a better job?

  4. The point is that blabbling is not the right word. Chris suggests babbling, I'd go with blabbing.

  5. Hmmmm... so why DIDN'T the Dodgers want to re-sign Beltre? Was he "damaged goods"? Was he a "clubhouse cancer"? Was he a "head case"? Was he a "(insert cliche here)"?

I was seeing a rumor or two a month ago about Seattle possibly trying to guage trade interest in Beltre. I love the guy's glove at 3B... his bat was a major disappointment, though. I don't know what happened there, and I wouldn't like seeing Seattle dump him after just one subpar season... they certainly gave Cirillo enough chances, anyway. Of course Beltre is not Cirillo, but if Adrian is about as good as Aubrey Huff at the plate, Huff has played 3B, after all.

I don't think they would be wise to try and trade Beltre at this point, but if they tried, what could they get in return for him?
